Cotton |
| |
The
Cotton Weavers Cooperative Societies source cotton yarn from the Cooperative
Spinning Mills (CSM). CSM tests the cotton fiber from which the yarn is
made for length, moisture and trash content. The yarn is further tested
for count of yarn and tensile strength; eveness; twists per inch; and
yarn appearance grade. |

Silk |
| |
The
Silk Weavers' Cooperative Societies source raw silk yarn from Anna Silk
Exchange (ASE), Kancheepuram. Ready silk yarn is sourced from Tamil Nadu
Silk Producers' Federation (TANSILK). From every batch of silk yarn that
leaves ASE and TANSILK, a sample is sent to the Central Government Silk
Testing and Conditioning House of Central Silk Board, Kancheepuram. The
yarn is tested for silk denier; twists per inch; silk eveness and percentage
of degumming loss. Only if the quality parameters are met is the yarn
sold. |

Zari |

People
often wonder about the quality of zari used in today's saris. At Loom
World, when we say 'pure zari', we mean it. Our weavers buy pure zari
from Tamil Nadu Zari Ltd, Kancheepuram and from the Registered Zari Manufacturers
of Surat, Gujarat. A sample from every consignment of zari is tested at
the Tamil Nadu Zari testing unit. Pure zari should contain the following:
Gold
content: 0.56% to 0.59%
Silver content: 53% to 55%
Silk: 24% |

Dyeing of Yarn |
| |
Today,
most Weavers' Cooperative Societies have their own dyeing centres with
excellent infrastructure such as water softening plants, hydro extractors
and effluent treatment plants. Fast dyes like Vat, Naphthol and Procion
ensure color fastness on washing and rubbing. The dyed yarn is also tested
for color eveness and water absorbancy. |

Weaving |
| |
The
Weavers' Cooperative Societies have appointed Quality Checking Supervisors
who tour production centres. They also check the quality of raw materials
used by the weavers. The finished products are checked for weaving defects,
cloth length, width, weight pattern and design and also for ends per inch
and picks per inch. Every piece has a note fixed to it which gives the
details of the weaver. |
