Loom World is the brainchild of the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles of Tamil Nadu. At the Directorate, we plan and implement programs to better the State's handloom, powerloom, and textile industries.

We work with over 1,50,000 weavers to respond to market trends. With our finger on the pulse of urban style, we have been able to accurately report what's out and what's in. Over the years, we have revived a number of techniques and patterns that were on the brink of disappearance. Textiles, in a riot of color and striking designs, are the heritage of Tamil Nadu and we intend to preserve and promote this legacy.

Ultimately, we are here to represent every person behind the loom. Our aim is to ensure a better quality of life for every weaver. To do this, we have formed cooperatives for weavers. Each cooperative ensures that their weavers are well paid and cared for in good times and bad.
